Rally Rocks…
A fun ‘Top Town’ games night.
This idea was part of a Totara Springs Family Camp where they had Tabloid Activities using rocks. We have used the idea and adapted it for Rally. Be creative and add other ideas so it is even more suitable for YOUR Rally.
Divide your members into teams. Have a Leader/adult in charge of each activity. In rotation, each team visits each activity and has a set time in which to earn as many points as possible.
You will need a selection of rocks – from slightly smaller than first size to three times first size. Round, square, rectangular, smooth, rough etc.- some shapes work better for some activites and not for others. Each team decides which rock is theirs. It is used for all activities.
Shot-put
One at a time, hold rock against shoulder and push out from there. Have 2-3 measurement markers and give points according to how far it is thrown.
Bowls
Place a small ball (or peg, tin, or spray-paint spot) at a suitable distance from the line. Each person must bowl their rock to try and touch or have it land beside the ball for maximum points.
Obstacle Course
Set out a stool and 2-3 markers. 2 members pick up a narrow piece of timber, place their rock on it and carry it over the stool, around the markers and back to the start. Begin with 10 points and take 2 points off each time the rock falls off. Suggest the timber measures about 1 m length X 4-8cm width.
Pirates Roll
Have a plank 2-3m in length. Place a strip of masking tape across plank ½ way along, and ¾ way along. Roll the rock along the plank. Points are given for the distance the rock rolls along the plank before coming off. Maximum points if it rolls off the far end of plank.
Rock Poetry
The team has a few minutes in which to write a poem about their rock or rocks. Give a special prize to the team with the best poem.
Barrier to Bucket
Place up a barrier (hardboard sheet, 2 poles with blanket draped over etc). Behind the barrier place a bucket (or 2 or 3!). Team takes turns throwing their rock over the barrier and trying to get it to land in the bucket/s. Let them view the placing of the bucket/s before they begin.
Rock & Spoon race
Provide a large serving spoon or wooden spoon on which they place their rock. Walk around a marker and back. They can use 2 hands to hold spoon as it could be heavy! No points if it drops off; or start with 10 points and take 2 off each time it drops.
Ten Pin Bowling
Set up ‘pins’ as per usual. Roll your rock to knock them down. 1 bowl per person. 1 point per pin down.
Accuracy
Paint small circles on grass 2-4metres away from line. Throw or roll rock to land in a circle.
Hockey Dribble
Place 3 markers in a line not too far apart. Using a hockey stick, dribble your rock (a large rock could be hard to move!) around markers and back to next person.
