Bethany Church Rally Sunday

On 15th November the evening service in Bethany Church took the form of a Rally Sunday service. The back of the church filled up with families and friends of Rally members and church members, and then the four Rallies filed in to the front of the church. They all looked very smart, although some of the smaller Rally members looked a bit anxious. It was encouraging to see fourteen young people enrolled in the junior rallies and twelve in the seniors. The junior boys particularly seemed to have doubled in number. The singing was brilliantly accompanied (as ever) by our outgoing overall Rally leader, John Mc Fadden. John wore his ‘McFadden ‘09’ shirt, which had been presented to him at the end of his last Rally camp in August of this year. During the service, the Junior girls gave a short presentation on the missionary they support, illustrated by appropriate props. Then five of the Senior boys led the praise by introducing a particular song, which they had picked because meant something to them.
We also watched a video presentation of what happens at Rally and at camp. Quite a few of those interviewed spoke of how they had been challenged by the talks at camp.
Glenn Johnston spoke at the end of the service. After sharing some of his own embarrassing moments (!), he reminded us that Nicodemus had first come to Jesus at night (John chapter3), but Nicodemus also took Jesus’ body from the cross (John chapter 19). Glenn encouraged all not to hide their faith but to stand up for what they believed in.
Afterwards there was tea and it was a chance for Rally leaders to meet parents and chat informally. It was a very successful evening.
